Tess and I decided to run the Charlotte Firecracker 5K. I also convinced my friend Elizabeth to join us! The race was held Sunday July 3rd at 7:00pm in South Charlotte, about an hour and a half from our house.
Packet Pick Up was from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm on race day. They also had packet pick up the day before. We arrived around 6:00 pm and picked up our event tank tops and race bibs.
The tank tops are super cute!
We hung out for the hour before the race and then got in the street ready to begin.
When the race began it was 90 degrees!! That is the hottest I have ever run an event. I was pretty worried about it but it cooled off fairly quickly.
There were 670 people registered with 627 people finishing!
The course was great with rolling hills and weaved throughout some nice mature neighborhoods. The crowd support was also great, many neighbors were on their lawns cheering the runners on, several set out sprinklers in the road for runners to run through and get cooled off! We are forever grateful for that!
There were two to three water stations along the way which was also great! Because of the heat you needed to grab the water for this event.
Tess did not fuel properly throughout the day before the race and hit a wall about half way through but we finished strong and I couldn’t be more proud of the little runner chick she has become!
The race ended at a community pool with a large party afterward. There was beer, food, music, swimming, massage tents and merchandise tents!
Finihsers also received a great Firecracker 5K Event Medal!
This event was very well organized and I would absolutely run it again!
